Business information

The Himalayan Institute has combined Western medicine with Eastern systems of healing in an integrated approach to holistic health. At the Himalayan Institute’s Total Health Center, well-trained staff provide insight and guidance on your healing path. We offer outpatient services, as well as personally tailored in-house rejuvenation and cleansing programs based on ayurvedic principles. Ayurvedic therapies restore our essential connection to nature, and promote the inherent self-healing qualities of the mind and body.

The Holistic Rejuvenation and Pancha Karma programs offered here are supervised by Carrie Demers, MD, Medical Director. A holistic physician, board certified in internal medicine, Dr. Demers incorporates modern medicine and holistic approaches to health including ayurveda, herbs, homeopathy, yoga, diet, and lifestyle changes.

Programs offered at the Himalayan Institute Total Health Center can help you to:

  • Regain youthful vigor and boost the immune system;
  • Prevent stress-induced compromises which may interfere with your sense of balance, wellness, and immunity;
  • Recover from antibiotic treatment, prescription drugs treatment, cancer treatment, surgery, or prolonged illness;
  • Relieve symptoms resulting from chronic conditions such as arthritis, osteoporosis, back pain, migraine headaches, high blood pressure, and diabetes; and
  • Restore psycho-physical balance when experiencing symptoms of anxiety and stress, mild depression, attention deficit disorder (ADD), insomnia, or corporate burn-out.

Some of the services include:

Holistic Medical Evaluation
Holistic healthcare evaluates the whole person (body, energy, mind) and utilizes both modern and natural medicines to treat diseases. It emphasizes diet, exercise, and stress management, which promote true healing rather than just alleviating the symptoms. Our provider uses yoga, homeopathy, and diet and lifestyle changes as core therapies.

Using computerized feedback to monitor breath, heart rate, and temperature, biofeedback is useful for treating hypertension, headaches, migraines, anxiety, and conditions aggravated by pain and stress. It is a powerful tool for raising self-awareness.

Yoga Therapy
A personalized hatha yoga session tailored to each client’s specific needs. It includes postures (asanas), breathing practices (pranayama), relaxation, meditation, and cleansing practices that are effective for your current state of health, flexibility, and strength.

Pancha Karma

The pinnacle of ayurvedic treatments, Shirodhara is the streaming of warm oil onto the center of the forehead. Our most popular service, it is deeply relaxing and meditative. Shirodhara is preceded by a preparatory massage and is followed by a massage to the scalp.

Massage and Shirodhara
A 60-minute massage followed by Shirodhara is excellent for releasing chronic tension and bringing deep and joyful awareness throughout mind and body.

Massage, Shirodhara, and Steam (Swedhana) Package
Massage, Shirodhara, and steam in one complete package! A great way to release tension and cleanse and rejuvenate the body, mind, and spirit. This is a feature of our Pancha Karma Program.

A dry, exfoliating massage usually performed prior to another body treatment. Garshana sloughs off dead skin cells and stimulates the flow of lymph. It refreshes the complexion and allows increased absorption of nutrients through the skin from the treatment which follows.

Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic care involves correcting misalignments in the spine and extremities which allows the nervous system to function optimally. Utilizing Applied Kinesiology, Dr. Michelle Head performs manual muscle testing to identify areas that need to be addressed. Treatments may involve gentle adjustments to the spine and extremities, recommended changes in diet, and suggestions for stress management.
